China Program - Travel Requirements

One parent must travel to China to complete the adoption process. CHI recommends that both parents travel, as the experience is truly life changing and the travel will allow you to get an IR-3 visa which means you will not have to peform a re-adoption in the States. With an IR-3 visa, your child will become an automatic citizen upon entering the U.S. This is an especially important consideration for a family living outside the U.S.
