A Story of HopeMy wife and I recently adopted a little boy. What began, just over a year ago, is an experience like no other. We have a new son and a new friend! We are U.S. citizens living abroad, as visitors in another Country. Our residential status is often confusing wheneven we must deal with any of the legal beauracracies of life abroad. So, when we decided we wanted to adopt our second child, we knew we were in for a headache. We were not disappointed. For over a month, day in and day out, we searched. We were online, on the phone, getting info packs in the mail, asking friends... You name it, we did it to try and find out how in the world we could adopt while living abroad. Everywhere we turned it would seem hopeful for the first few moments only to be frustrated while one person after the next got confused and simply gave up on making it happen. When an adoption agency would realize they had "never done that before," namely helping a couple living overseas adopt, they often just politely passed us off to the next person. However, on three occasions, Michele Jordan's name came up as someone to contact. To be honest, since she was introduced as an attorney, we put it off. Too expensive we figured. She'd probably want something from us just for answering her phone. Boy were we wrong. In almost final desperation we gave up and called Michele. That call began our miracle. From the first five minutes we spoke with her, our hope was renewed. She assured us that, having 25+ years of experience, she could help make it happen. And she did. Once a child to adopt was identified, which in our case Michele also helped with, she took care of every last bit of legwork and legal wrangling that needed to happen. Her network of professionals to call upon was invaluable. We completed a home study in near record time, and had agencies and other attorneys lined up to help with no effort on our part (ok, so we cleaned the house!). What we all discovered along the way was that ours was perhaps the most challenging and unique situations anyone, from the agency, to the other attorneys and the judge, had ever seen. But Michele absolutly never gave up. Never! Even as she traveled to the other side of the globe for another client, she remained in constant contact (yeah Skype!). My wife and I were quite down at times as we often figured the lastest hurdle was the last. Michele assured us that despite seemingly impossible legal challenges, the adoption would go through. Again, unique in our case, Michele even went so far as to seek specific, and legal, exceptions to be made in our case. She arranged for another attorney to argue for us in front of a judge for the final hurdles to be cleared. What stands out about Michele, beyond her unbelievably selfless and never-give-up work ethic, is her compassion and care for everyone involved. We knew in our hearts that she cared for the birthmother, the child and us equally. Every step of the way, we trusted her more and more. She never let us down. She would be embarassed to share this herself. She's far too humble. But since I agreed to build this website, as a way to say thank you and to return in a very small way what she did for us and others, I get the last word on what gets posted! So, thank you Michele!! If you are living overseas and need help figuring out how to adopt, or you want the very best in help doing that, contact Michele today. You too will meet a new friend and have a miracle to share in a few months time. |
